This summer I have resorted to getting (a little bit) tan. Most summers I slather on a continuous glob of sunscreen, never ever sit in the sun, and cringe every time there is a beam upon my skin. Well, not this year. Maybe it's from the pandemic and being inside so much. Maybe it's the fact that I'm getting older and realize life is too short and I should enjoy a little bit of glow, or maybe it's the fact that I have read on the need for Vitamin D, that most of us are deficient in it, and you can not get vitamin D with sunscreen on! So whatever the reason-a nice little glow coupled with a cute short skirt is the perfect high-five to a summer well spent.

I bought this adorable, sassy little dress quite a while ago, as I knew I would love it when the summer months came. And it's true, the casual fit on top, coupled with a hidden zipper, tie and ruffle skirt is the perfect way to show my (very slightly) tanned legs. The fabric is a beautiful cotton, which is light and airy, perfect for cooler summer nights or air-conditioned buildings.

I wore it with my fave sandals because I wanted a casual evening feel. Adding an adorable flirty kitten heel would be a sweet option. You could also wear this during the day because the cotton fabric lends itself to be casual. Throw on some sneakers and you have the cutest running errands or cutest grabbing coffee outfit.

Also the dress/skirt portion is super flattering because of the ruching. This dress allows you to make as many 'wrinkles' and creases in the skirt by pulling on the tie and making it shorter, or you can let the skirt out to be a bit straighter. I love dresses that have this, as it adds more depth and dimension to your outfit, and gives you options for how you want the fit.

I wish you could feel this dress. It is the softest, lightest, most wonderful comfy cotton that everyone would have for summer. The top half is a bit sheer, adding to the light feel of this perfect summer frock. Long sleeves are wonderful for the cooler summer nights, or air-conditioned places that always require a light wrap when inside.

The lower portion is appropriately lined, and with the light, loose waist tie I felt like I was wearing my robe. I paired it with my favorite summer sandals, but it would also be adorable with slip-on sneakers for day, or a cute wedge for the evening. The blue tie-dye is bit bohemian, but not over the top or too much to where it looks like I'm trying to re-live my youth of the 80's. hahaahaa!

I bought the dress at a local beach store, so I think you could find something very similar at a local shop in your town. During the day I carried a very light back pack in the same hues as the dress.For evening you can throw on a nicer shoe (but still casual, so no stilletos). Think wedges, a simple kitten-heel, etc. a smaller clutch; possible in a raffia fabric-or even a light suede in soft pink or yellow.

Très Facile

This summer I have made a pact with myself to wear more dresses. They are easy for day, light and breezy, and with a simple shoe change and jewelry upgrade, they are perfect for warm summer nights. You can't go wrong with a cotton blend to keep you cool and crisp while looking polished. And I love this dress! Really!

And since we are not traveling anywhere exotic or super exciting this summer, I thought wearing the cute dresses I would normally save for a 'special place' would help to brighten my everyday. Wearing this dress for my errands and activities put me in a better state of mind - I promise.

Next, factor in your favorite, amazing, prized shoes. Mine happen to be these new slip-on flats that I absolutely adore. The dress and the shoe make me feel a little Hepburn-esque. My mood elevated as soon as I had it all on. Of course for day, throwing on a cute sneaker, converse, sandal or even flip-flop is totally acceptable and will make your day easy, breezy and beautiful. Stop for a soda spritzer in the afternoon and live it up.

If you want, throwing on an adorable hat to protect you from the sun while running around adds even more pop and adorableness to this outfit. You will get compliments all day long for something that seriously is so easy to accomplish.

I grabbed a beach style woven bag that emphasized summer lightness and also added a pop of color.
